Puy de Lemptégy is a volcano in the Chaîne des Puys in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, a volcanic zone in mainland France that is still potentially active (known as dormant). It is also, by design, a naturalist museum presenting an open-air volcano interior excavated by careful exploitation of non-cohesive or slightly cohesive material, pozzolana, thus highlighting the internal architecture of the eruptive vents, namely the central volcanic chimneys and a system of lateral dykes. An exhibition and, in season, events complete the layout.
