According to several legends, there was originally a monastery erected on the territory of Aleth. In 813, a charter states that Berà, Count of Razès, and his wife Romella decided to raise this monastery dedicated to Notre-Dame to the title of abbey, in thanksgiving to God, and the abbey adopted the Benedictine rule. From then on, the abbey was richly endowed, provoking covetousness and jealousy on the part of other local lords, especially from Couiza and Limoux. https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abbaye_d%27Alet-les-BainsPrice
