In 1807, Napoleon 1st commissioned the architect Alexandre-Théodore Brongniart (1739-1813) to build a monument. He wanted to create an emblem of the power and accomplishment that France had achieved. Indeed, the emperor's triumphs on the battlefield had led to the development of a veritable European trade. In 1808, he commissioned the architect Alexandre-Théodore Brongniart to build a building in the image of commerce: the Paris Stock Exchange. The emperor hoped to bring order to the country's economy by centralizing all economic exchanges. https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Palais_Brongniart
