Comment

Maréchal de France in 1643 and maréchal général des camps et armées du roi in 1660, he was one of the finest generals under Louis XIII and then Louis XIV. A popular figure, a talented strategist and the military glory of the Grand Siècle par excellence, he remains an indisputable master of the art of war. During his lifetime, he was greatly admired both by his soldiers and by the great marshals of Europe; when he learned of Turenne's death at the Battle of Salzbach, Montecuccoli exclaimed: "Today a man who did honor to Man has died." Napoleon himself admired his military genius, ranking him alongside Frederick II of Prussia and his great rival, Condé. https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Henri_de_La_Tour_d%27Auvergne_(vicomte_de_Turenne)
