Comment
To mark the 400th anniversary of his birth, Monnaie de Paris pays tribute to Jean de La Fontaine, France's greatest fabulist and a member of the Académie française.Through his texts, Jean de la Fontaine continues to fascinate, using animals to represent the great traits of human character. Dedicated to the dauphin Louis de France, Jean de la Fontaine leaves us a literary legacy of over 240 fables, as well as numerous collections of tales and poems.
The front of the blister pack features an illustration by artist Thomas Bass, depicting Jean de La Fontaine at work. He drew inspiration for one of his fables from an unusual show.
The mini-medal features a bust of the poet, looking at one of his most famous fables: The Raven and the Fox.
The reverse of the blister is numbered and features a short text on Jean de La Fontaine.
