In the 15th century, the castle became part of the town's intramural defense system. To the south, the city walls consisted of the castle's outer ramparts; on the river bank, the seigniorial mill, also fortified, was separated from the castle by one of the city's three gates, known as the "Bondonneau" gate. After the bridge over the Sèvre, the ramparts continue northwards and, at the level of the "tour de Cuchaud", ascend the hillsides to the Porte Saint-Jacques (at the northern end of the rue des Halles). The ramparts continue west to the Place du Connétable and south to the château's prison tower. A path through the bastions leads to the "Cabareau" or "Cahareau" gate. https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ch%C3%A2teau_de_ClissonPrice
