From 1110 until the French Revolution, the castle and village belonged to the archbishops of Narbonne. It was the seat of one of the eleven baylies of the archbishopric, demonstrating that the prelates were integrated into feudal society and that ecclesiastical power was supported by seigneuries. Archbishops had to defend their property against their neighbors, both before and after the Albigensian Crusade. https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ch%C3%A2teau_de_Villerouge-Termen%C3%A8sPrice
