The Montenvers railway is a 5.1 kilometer metric-gauge cogwheel railroad line in the Haute-Savoie region of France. It was inaugurated in 1909, and links Chamonix-Mont-Blanc (departure station near the Chamonix-Mont-Blanc SNCF train station, altitude 1,042 meters) to Montenvers, a viewpoint over the Mer de Glace (altitude 1,913 meters) that gives tourists access to an ice cave. In 2009, with over 800,000 passengers, this line was the busiest tourist attraction in the Rhône-Alpes region. https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chemin_de_fer_du_Montenvers
