Comment

In Augustus' time, they issued an original coin: the bronze "crocodile ace". The obverse shows the leaning busts of Augustus and his son-in-law and friend Agrippa. On the reverse, a crocodile chained to a palm symbolizes Egypt's submission to Rome. Both sides commemorate the naval victory at Actium won by Octavian and Agrippa over Mark Antony and Cleopatra in 31 B.C. It was this decisive battle that opened the gates of Egypt and ultimately enabled Octavian to become emperor under the name of Augustus. https://www.classicistranieri.com/fr/articles/a/s/_/As_de_N%C3%AEmes_6135.html
