The Star of Moustiers hangs from a chain stretched between two mountains, several dozen meters above the ground. According to the legend recounted by Frédéric Mistral, it is an ex-voto: the Chevalier de Blacas, who was taken prisoner on crusade by the Mamelukes at Damietta in 1249, promised to dedicate a monument to the Virgin if he ever returned to his fiefdom. When he returned safe and sound, he kept his promise and had a sixteen-pointed star, the emblem of his family, hung on the wallHttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moustiers-Sainte-Marie
