The Latin legend on the reverse means that Louis XIV struck down his enemies like a lion, and then showed mercy to them, like Jesus Christ on the cross.Hugues de La Croix, King's Councillor and Treasurer-Paymaster of the Court, was elected Mayor on June 21, 1659. His election having been contested, he was appointed by the king.
