Comment
François Baudot, King's Counselor and Master of Accounts, had already been Viscount-Mayor of Dijon between 1690 and 1692. Re-elected mayor in 1694, he remained in office until August 1703. He died in Dijon in 1711.In the legend of this token, François Baudot humorously refers to the symbolic charge of the number of years he lived and served as mayor. In astrology, a climacteric designates a year, a multiple of seven or nine, which is considered critical for man and in which, according to astrologers, the body deteriorates, leading to illness, death or disastrous accidents. This year is doubly climacteric for François Baudot: being in his sixty-third year (seven times nine), he is also entering his seventh year as mayor... but he is keen to point out that, despite everything, he doesn't feel that weakened!
