Comment
Guillaume Bonnet, an accomplished medallist, readily yields to the search for a more subtle modelling for the creation of tokens. His admiration for Greco-Roman statuary, reinforced by several months in Italy, led him to use a Latin legend and an allegory draped in antique style, holding a caduceus and balanced scales, to celebrate the law establishing freedom of brokerage by ending the monopoly of government-appointed commercial brokers. The city of Lyon is recalled by urns depicting the confluence of the Saône and Rhône rivers and, in the background, the Fourvière hill with the chapel surmounted by the statue of Fabisch.
