Comment

The galley administration likes to use the myth developed by Virgil: in the 9th book of the Aeneid, Turnus sets out to burn Aeneas' ships, but Jupiter saves them by transforming them into Nereids. In the 18th century, mermaids thus took on a quasi-emblematic function for this administration, which was the only one to depict them on its tokens.
