Although France's fortunes in arms seemed to be waning, Burgundy was more reassured; it could count on the two Condés: the one who fought at Seneffe, and his son the Duc de Bourbon. The former, having become infirm, could no longer hold the States; the latter succeeded him by anticipation. The vessel of the province of Burgundy, on a sea agitated by winds blowing from the four cardinal points, is held by two anchors fixed to the shore; the two anchors symbolize the two princes of Condé, father and son.
