Reverse

An irritated lioness, carrying on her heart the arms of the province of Burgundy, trampling with her hind legs the Austrian standard and rushing against the fleeing battalions; date at the exergue.

Script: Latin

Lettering: VNA FVGATIS HOSTIBVS INSIGNIS

Unabridged legend: Una fugatis hostibus insignis.

Comment

The troops of the Prince de Condé left for the city of Paris, threatened from the north. The troops of Austria and Lorraine attacked Burgundy as far as Saint-Jean-de-Losne, which underwent a memorable siege. The inhabitants resisted energetically, which is recalled on the reverse of this token.
