Eleonora of Habsburg or Austria, born November 15, 1498 in Leuven (Habsburg Netherlands), died February 18, 1558 in Talavera la Real (Castile), was Queen of Portugal from 1518 to 1521 and Queen of France from 1530 to 1547.She grew up in the Netherlands with her brother, the future Emperor Charles V. Although an infanta of Castile, her culture and mother tongue were French. She first married King Manuel I of Portugal, thirty years her senior. After three years of marriage and eight years of widowhood, she married King Francis I. Widowed and dowered with the Duchy of Touraine from 1547 to 1558, she spent her last years in the Netherlands with her sister Marie. She followed her brother to Spain after his abdication, and died a year later at the age of fifty-nine.
