Comment

In 1815, Bourbon Island (Reunion Island) was returned to France by England, and under the Restoration, the island received privileges and abundant funds. The Governor, with the title of Commander and Administrator for the King, held a reserve of funds in a reserve or discount fund, the statutes of which were laid down by the Minister of the Navy on September 4, 1822. On September 12, 1826, the Governor issued a royal decree creating a new Caisse d'escompte et de prêts and liquidating the previous Caisse. The articles of association (art.101) provided for the manufacture of attendance tokens to the value of 5 francs on the orders of the Minister of the Navy, to be delivered to the administration of the Caisse, which would reimburse the price.
