Saint Jean-Baptiste de La Salle, born on April 30, 1651 in Reims and died on April 7, 1719 at the manor house of Saint-Yon, on the outskirts of Rouen, was a French clergyman and pedagogical innovator who devoted his life to educating poor children. He was the founder of the Brothers of the Christian Schools. Canonized in 1900, he is celebrated on April 7.
