Louise Hippolyte and her husband Jacques, Duc de Valentinois, succeeded Antoine I on February 21, 1731, and were to reign together, but the Princess soon made it clear to Jacques that she intended to reign alone and that he should return to Paris.The Princess planned to coin money, but died of smallpox on December 29, 1731.
After becoming Prince of Monaco, Jacques I, the Duc de Valentinois, had three tokens engraved by Reug (or Rog): two in 1731 with the words "Prince de Monaco" and one in 1715 with "Duc de Valentinois".
The 1731 token (MC95c), with a view of Monaco, is accompanied by the legend "JACOBUS. I. DEI. GRATIA MONOECI PRINCEPS 1731" has never been found.
