The design of obverse copies the design of the medal that was given by Count Franz Anton von Sporck (1662-1738) to friends and hunting parties as a gift.

Hubertus or Hubert (c. 656 - May 30, 727 AD) was a Christian saint who became the first bishop of Liège in 708 AD. He is the patron saint of hunters, mathematicians, opticians and metalsmiths. Legend holds that on a Good Friday morning, while the faithful were in church, Hubert was hunting in the forest. As he pursued a magnificent stag, the animal turned and Hubert was astounded to see a crucifix floating between its antlers.

The image of the glowing crucifix between the stag's antlers is still on bottles of Jägermeister.
