The Union National Museum is a history and archeology museum in Alba-Iulia, Romania. The museum was inaugurated in 1888 on the initiative of the Society of Historical, Archaeological and Natural Sciences of the Lower Alba District, whose director was the famous archaeologist Adalbert Cserni.
The "Babylon" building is a historical monument built in the years 1851-1853, bearing the influence of Romantic architecture. It served as a residential pavilion for officers, and in 1967-1968 it was rebuilt into a museum.
The "Union Hall" (Sala Unirii) was built in 1898-1900. This is the building where the Grand National Assembly voted for the Union of Transylvania with Romania.
Noteworthy are the deposits of bronze, as well as pottery, zoomorphic idols, and iron, bronze, and stone tools discovered at the great fortified settlement of Teleac. Of particular interest is a marble statuette of the Liber Pater, a bronze collection, a glass collection, bone, horn and ivory items, and monetary treasures from Alba Iulia. These include the silver treasure from Lupu and the materials discovered in the princely tomb of Cugir. The numismatic collection includes ancient, medieval and modern coins, plaques and coins.
