Comment

Boulanger ran in Paris to replace Hude, a deceased deputy, on a three-word program: "Dissolution, Révision, Constituante". His opponents pitted him against Jacques, President of the Seine General Council. On January 27, 1889, Boulanger won 244,000 votes to his opponent's 160,000. Boulanger celebrated his victory at the Café Durand, Place de la Madeleine, in the presence of 50,000 people. Some people call on Boulanger, asking him to take over the Élysée Palace. Boulanger's supporters were disappointed, and the fears of his opponents were aroused, who now set about discrediting him. For his full biography, see http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Georges_Boulanger
