Background information:
On August 12, 1873, the St. Vincentius Society was founded in Opoeteren (Maaseik, Belgium) under the impulse of E.H. DOCHEZ, pastor. This society was founded to help the needy of the parish. St. Vincent de Paul Society, R.C. association with the aim of the self-sanctification of its members and the practice of Christian charity in the spirit of Saint Vincencius a Paulo. The founder was the student Fréderic OZANAM who started this work in Paris in May 1833 with a group of young men. The parish archives contain some information on the society.

Op 12.08.1873 werd te Opoeteren het St. Vincentiusgenootschap gesticht onder impuls van E.H. DOCHEZ, pastoor. Dit genootschap werd opgericht om de noodlijdenden van de parochie te helpen.
St. Vincenciusvereniging, R.K. vereniging met als doel de zelfheiliging van de leden en de beoefening van de christelijke naastenliefde in de geest van de H. Vincencius a Paulo. De oprichter was de student Fréderic OZANAM die in mei 1833 te Parijs met een groep jongemannen aan dit werk begon.
