These tokens were minted in 1942 to replace the silver and bronze coins that were used in the gas meters. The new zinc coins of the same denomination had different sizes. The tokens were designed by Nico de Haas, who also designed the zinc coinage of the time.
This token is listed as #GA170 in the “Catalogus van de Nederlandse betaal- en reclamepenningen” (3rd ed., A.J. Kooij, 2008)
