Edward Prince Of York Token By W Comyns.William Comyns, a highly respected London silversmith produced these tokens in sets of four around the turn of the 20th century. They were some sets being produced in silver. There are four types, all with a portrait of a member of the Royal family in about 1900 on the obverse and the four different card suits were represented on the reverse. This one depicts the 5 or 6 year old Edward Prince of York as he was known then. He was of course the son of Edward Duke of York (who was to become Edward VII). So the prince, known throughout his life as David, was later to become King Edward VIII, soon however abdicating the throne in 1937 in order to marry Wallis Simpson; thereafter he was known as the Duke of Windsor spending most of the rest of his life in France.
