Medals commemorating the French victory of 1857.
After Marechal Randon's victory in Kabylia and the capture of Icheriden in 1857 against the rebellious bands which were still fighting in spite of Abd-el-Kader's surrender, the Governor General of Algeria had a series of medals struck in Arabic which were widely distributed to the population. They are, therefore, propaganda medals.
