King Umberto I on the 17th of november 1878 in Naples, in an open carriage with Queen Margherita and Prince Vittorio Emanuele (III) and was attacked with a dagger by the Lucanian anarchist Giovanni Passannante who rushed onto the carriage shouting "Long live Orsini! Long live the Universal Republic", the Queen threw a bunch of flowers in the attacker's face and the King parried the blow, suffering only a small wound to the arm.
