Comment
In January 1794, the Marquis Maurice Gigost d'Elbée, Generalissimo of the Catholic and Royal Army, was shot in Noirmoutier by the Republicans.The Marquis d'Elbée quickly became one of the main generals of the Vendée armies. He was staying on the island of Noirmoutier to recover from his injuries during the Battle of Cholet.
