A Canadian 1964 Penny was used. You can see the ghost images of the reverse side with date of Canadian cent on Peggy’s cove side and the obverse of the Queen’s head on the blank side. It is illegal in Canada to use Canadian money to use in elongated pennies but in the USA, UK and a few other countries it is legal. In Canada, a blank planchet is to be used. A lot of people ignore this and the authorities turned a blind eye towards the practice.
