Comment

1886 Eutopia Dollar HK-1005, R.8. Ex: John J. Ford, Jr. A bimetallic variety with a small gold insert at the center and a broad outer ring of silver. During the late 19th century, the gold standard was backed by financial institutions, while debtors, farmers, and silver miners wanted silver and gold to trade at a fixed ratio. Nicholas Veeder of Pittsburgh devised the Eutopia "dollar" as a solution to satisfy both sides, but his efforts were ignored except by future collectors. A semiprooflike piece with splashes of lavender toning across the silver outer ring.
