Comment

(Ca. 1896) Whipple Dollar, HK-832, R.5, Gilt bronze, 38 mm. Obverse similar to Morgan dollar, but peripheral legend reads C.M. WHIPPLE & CO. WESTFIELD MASS. ONE DOLLAR, with LEGAL TENDER above the eagle. The reverse is an incused, backward rendering of the obverse. Some collectors believe this is an incomplete store card, while others deem it a so-called dollar and place it alongside the Bryan Money or the Lesher Referendum dollars. In either case it is rare and elusive
