The Berlin Wall (German: Berliner Mauer), the "Wall of Shame" for West Germans and officially called the "Anti-Fascist Protection Wall" by the East German government (German: Antifachistischer Schutzwall), was erected in the middle of Berlin on the night of August 12/13, 1961 by the German Democratic Republic (GDR), in an attempt to halt the growing exodus of its inhabitants to the Federal Republic of Germany (FRG). https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mur_de_Berlin
