In Fallout New Vegas' downloadable content, Lonesome Road, you can find and use these strange pre-war terminals called Commissary Terminals. In them, you can buy all sorts of ammunition and supplies - but curiously, the playable character pays with bottle tops... Why would the pre-war army have soldiers using bottle tops to buy supplies? WELL! That's where these coins come in! It's been reported that before the Great War, soldiers and personnel were given chits to pay for the supplies they needed. Some soldiers got tired of waiting for rations, so they found the workaround of using bottle caps, as they were similar in size and shape (more or less) and fit perfectly into the coin slot of the commissary terminals.
