The reverse depicts the scene of Christopher Columbus setting foot on America. He is embracing a banner/flag in his right hand and brandishing a sword in his left. A sailor is seen kneeling behind him and just behind is an armed conquistador. Beyond in the waters off the coast, are his three ships, the Santa Maria, the Pinta and the Niña.
