A cast open-worked coin-shaped charm made in the Late Joseon Kingdom.

Chatelaine
Most Korean charms and amulets are usually found strung to coloured ribands attached to a large metal charm ornament which serves the purpose of a chatelaine. These ornaments are said to be given by the family to Korean brides on their marriage, to be hung on their beds or to be worn on their persons. Ultimately many find their way to temples with the result that they are sometimes taken to be religious ornaments.

The class and character of the inscriptions on these ornaments, as well as on the majority of the charms themselves, certainly bear out the idea of their connection with nuptial or marital greetings and wishes.
