Comment
Contemporary gilded II. Ferdinánd Körmöcbánya tallér with the year 1622, on the fringe: HERR S.SCHENAI UNGERISCHER CANTZLER.Sennyey István was the chancellor of Hungary between 1623-1635. This medal was the property of the Chancellor, presumably worn until his death.
The Hungarian Court Chancellery played an important role in Hungarian self-government. The primary task of the chancellery remained the exercise of sovereign rights, the donation of estates and various secular and ecclesiastical offices, the administration of breeding and other promotions, and the contact with certain Hungarian government bodies.
Direct contact with Hungary provided an opportunity for the Chancellery to act as a mediator between the ruling and Hungarian orders. Thus, the Chancellery and the Chancellor became indispensable factor in Hungarian public policy.
