Rock Island Swing Bridge was built in 1895 and closed due to bankruptcy of the Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific Railroad in 1980. Being a swing bridge, it was left open for boat traffic. Special legislation was passed for an individual to own a bridge, and Joan and Al Roman of Chicago bought the bridge and reopened it in 1982. It was closed in 1999 because of a failing beam in the bridge, and a portion fell into the river. Demolition was begun, but people fought to keep the remaining portion open as a public pier. After rebuilding the deck, it opened as "Swing Bridge Park" and a public pier in 2011.Photo of the pier.
These tokens were made in several colors including Red, Orange, White, Yellow, Black, Blue and Green.
