The ball was founded in 1877. Frequented by hoodlums, the establishment was reputed to be dangerous. Malafosse took over the business in 1928, after several successions in an unfavorable economic climate. After three years of operation, the ball ran into serious difficulties and was sold by auction in 1931. Muller, an Alsatian, took over the business, opening a brasserie and renting out rooms while keeping the ball. The Second World War put an end to his management.
