The "Bal de la Grille" had its origins in 1894, when Mr. Estampes bought the wine merchant and caterer's business to turn it into a bal musette. From 1922 onwards, the new owner, Jacober, put his name on the tokens with the words "Bal de la Grille" or simply with the grid design.
