One of the most expressive episodes in the history of waterway transport in Rio de Janeiro, the Cantareira Revolt, takes place on May 22, 1959. The day before, the Frota Popular boat sank and, at midnight, the sailors from the Carreteiro Group entered into strike. The company asked the Navy to make the crossing and asked the Army to guarantee security. Already revolted by the high prices and the precariousness of the service and, now, with the intemperance of the soldiers who administered the embarkation and disembarkation, the population explodes in fury, destroying the fleet of vessels, the passenger terminal, the shipyard and even the mansion of Wagoner family.

As a result, the Federal Government decrees the expropriation of the company's assets and the buildings of the Cantareira Station, the transport being transferred to other vessels. In 1967, as part of the nationalization process promoted by the military regime, waterway transport in the bay became part of the Guanabara Bay Transport Service (STBG), a mixed economy company. In 1971, the control of STBG was transferred from the Union to the State of Rio de Janeiro and two years later, the Navigation Company of the State of Rio de Janeiro (Conerj) was created.
