The detail of the painting "Independence or Death" (1888), by Pedro Américo, predominates in pad printing. The cut of the painting in the upper part alludes to the lighting of the sun – the dawn of freedom – and, in the lower part, there is a composition with a saber typical of the personal guard of D. Pedro I, which proves to be the powerful tool of the resounding cry. The text "Independência ou Morte!"” (Independence or Death!) is part of what D. Pedro I uttered on the banks of the Ipiranga Creek when declaring his Independence. The third phrase of the Independence Hymn "JÁ RAIOU A LIBERDADE NO HORIZONTE DO BRASIL" (freedom has rained on Brazil's horizon)accompanies the lower edge.
