Comment
On September 15, 1821, the act of independence from Spain was signed in Central America. The provinces that made up the Captaincy General of Guatemala, due to this proclamation, agreed to install a Congress that would meet the following year. A few months after the act was signed, this process was altered by the "invitation" of the mexican emperor Agustín de Iturbide with troops under General Vicente Filísola who took power in June 1822. This union lasted until June 7, 1823. On July 1, 1823, the Old Captaincy General of Guatemala was renamed as UNITED PROVINCES OF CENTRAL AMERICA, declaring its absolute independence from Spain and any other power. On October 4, 1823, the agreement of July 1 was ratified since the provinces of Honduras, Nicaragua and Costa Rica lacked representatives. Citizen José Cecilio del Valle was confirmed in office as one of the 3 elected to the triumvirate. This medal comes inside a wooden box with a sliding top window.
