Comment

Benedict II Civran, descendant of a family belonging to the Venetian patriciate, was appointed Governator de' Condannati (commander of galleys) and, at the head of a flotilla, defeated the Tripoli corsairs on 20 April 1753 off the coast of Kefalonia. On 3 November 1753 it was decided to reward the participants in the enterprise with various gold and silver medals which were then distributed to the crews according to the rank and value demonstrated in the naval battle.
