In the towns of Wieselburg and Purgstall were established the most modern POW camps of the Austrian monarchy. In 1915-1918 lived there up to 80 000 Russian or Italian prisoners. In the small village of Mühling, a camp was built for officers (up to 300 prisoners). The famous painter Egon Shiele spent there his military service.Menzel: CCC
