Comment

The bear is a pun on Berndorff (Bärendorff - Bear village) as well as part of the company logo. Berndorff is in Austria, the property of Arthur, son of patriarch Hermann. One specialty of the factory was imitation silver cutlery.

The Krupp concern in Germany (not the same thing as the Berndorffer establishment) was the major pillar of the Nazi war industry. It was using slave labour. When bombers flew over in the second world war, Dutch children would sing "Van de fabriek van Krupp, staat alleen nog maar de stoep" - De only thing remaining of the Krupp factory is the threshold.
