The Volkskeuken was an initiative of liberal entrepreneurs in Ghent, who set up a dry and clean place where workers could get a cheap, but good meal. It was located at the Kortrijksepoortstraat.
This token was one of a series and was issued between 1868 and 1940. Other tokens were issued for different meals and meal components, e.g. soup or beer.
