Marstrand is located 30 km North-West of Gothenburg. Founded in the XIII century by fishermen (which is reflected in the coat of arms of the city), it is currently the smallest city in Sweden, in 2010 it lived 1319 people. Located on two Islands, Marstrander and Kujan, separated by a Strait with a width of 100-150m in the city. Communication between the island areas of the city only ferry. There are two cable ferries Lasse-Maja and Nisse ,
which is used for the transportation of building materials, construction machines, mechanisms, as well as a reserve for the transportation of passengers.
The ferry runs every 15 minutes during the day, the journey time is 3-5 minutes. After 00: 00 the ferry goes 30 minutes after a light call from the opposite shore. Cable ferries do not have a propeller or a wheel and move on a cable laid from one bank to the other with the help of an electric winch onboard the ferry.
