Shoshone, name after Northern Shoshone tribe of the Snake River plain, was laid out in 1882 in anticipation of the arrival of the Union Pacific Oregon Shortline Railroad to the Magic Valley. The town has been known by various different names in the past: Little Wood River, Big Bottoms, Naples and Junction City.Note: Propritor W.H. Brown also ran a business in the nearby town of Wendell, Idaho.
