"GRAND UNION" was a chain of food stores... started as the "Jones Brothers Tea Co." in 1872 and became "Grand Union" in the 1920's -- at one time Grand Union was the 9th largest supermarket chain with over 900 stores, it now has just 26 locations on the east coast and is owned by "C&S Wholesale Grocers" -- At the time this token was issued (c1970's) the company was headquartered in either Elmwood Park, NJ or Wayne, NJ (more likely wayne as Elmwood park was the original location) -- today headquarters (C&S) is in Battleboro, VT and the stores are called "Grand Union Family Markets" ---- WIKIPEDIA
